Infection Control/MDS Coordinator

Maria Luisa Shukla, known as “Malou” by her friends and colleagues is the Infection Control and Preventionist of Westminster Towers.

As part of her many responsibilities, she meets with new residents and their families at Westminster Health and Rehabilitation to assess their clinical needs (Minimum Data Set) to ensure a meaningful and enjoyable stay. Malou collaborates with clinicians, members of the clinical and non-clinical teams to ensure the delivery of the excellent quality care they deserve.

Born and raised in the Philippines, Malou earned her bachelor’s degree at the age of 20 at Far Eastern University Institute of Nursing. She took extra classes to be able to teach in nursing school to follow in the footsteps of her parents who were members of the faculty.

Before pursuing nursing in America, Malou was the Senior Product Manager at Rhone-Poulenc Rorer, a multinational pharmaceutical company. She has over 33 years of experience in skilled nursing, with 7 of those spent at Westminster Towers. She embraces the faith and ministry behind the organization.

She and her husband, Dr. Vik Shukla reside in Belmont, NC and love spending time on the lake. She enjoys her daily commute to Rock Hill and prays the rosary, giving her a sense of stability and comfort. Malou loves to play pickleball and never misses her Zumba routines!
